Hats & Scarves: winter warming project
Living Earth’s Hats & Scarves Project connects the gentle creative arts of knit and crochet with an opportunity to help folks in need this winter. Home-made items are a wonderful way to express your compassion, creativity, and care, and to make a difference for folks who need a hand. And Hats & Scarves is a project you can do at home, on the bus, at a concert or lecture, anywhere you want, on your own time.
The program is simple
Living Earth members, friends, and needle-workers in general knit and crochet (or sew) warm hats and scarves that will be given to children and families throughout our area to keep away the winter cold. Right before Thanksgiving, Living Earth will make our first distribution through community partners who offer emergency assistance and social services.
Make a cozy hat or scarf — or dozens! — for children of every age from babies on up (we’re all someone’s children). Even shawls and lap-warmers are welcome. And we encourage folks to keep knitting right through January for our last distribution in February.
We request only new items, made by hand. The warmth you share will be a welcome surprise in food baskets or emergency packages for folks who need a little extra warmth this winter.
