Final Report & Potluck Announcement

The final Hats & Scarves pick-ups and distributions for this winter have been completed, and what a wonderful success. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this project.

Last year (the first year) we collected 250 items. This year, between mid-November and early February, 650 beautiful, cozy items were donated! Bright, creative, warm hats and scarves came in for everyone from newborns to elderlies. Several pairs of booties and mittens, shawls, and a baby sweater were also included in the mix.

Our distributions this year went to these community partners:

  • Sisters of the Road and Blanchet House (serving folks in downtown and old town);
  • IRCO Africa House, (recent immigrants and refugees);
  • Emanuel Children’s Hospital (babies and children);
  • Portland Public Schools Clothes Closet (kids and families); and
  • Adelante Mujeres (Latina program serving kids and families in Washington County).

And great thanks to New Seasons 7 Corners and the Albina Community Bank branches that served as drop-off spots.  We couldn’t have done this without their support.

Living Earth is hosting a Community Potluck on Friday, March 5 (details are at www.livingearthgatherings.org), and we’d love to meet everyone who volunteered for Hats & Scarves or is interested in the project, or wants to know more about Living Earth.

Friday March 5, 6:30- 9:00 pm
First Friday Potluck and Community Gathering

First Fridays began in 2002, and March 5 is the first of our spring series this year. Bring a vegetarian dish to share and join the conversation. The food is always great, the conversation lively, and the topic discussions are wonderful. Suggested donation is $5 but everyone is always welcome.

More information is online at www.livingearthgatherings.org.

Thank you again to everyone whose bright heart and generous spirit made this year’s Hats & Scarves project such a wonderful success! Hope to see you on March 5
