Volunteer knitting circles contribute to success of Hats & Scarves project

The 'circle' happily knitting at a weekly gathering.
Back in mid-November, Sarah contacted Hats & Scarves. Already hosting a knitting group regularly, she was excited about suggesting to her group that they knit items to donate to our project. The group is a half-dozen or so women, some who’ve been knitting quite a while, others just beginning but all of whom are happy to be sharing their talent and obviously enjoying themselves doing it.

Some of the hats knitted and donated by Sarah and her group.
So far the group has donated an entire basketful of beautifully knitted hats that have since been donated to agencies serving families in need in Portland.
To date, a number of people have written to request donations of yarn to supplement their supply for their circle or to let us know about knitting circles that have sprouted up to serve this project! It’s great way to provide much-needed warm clothing during the winter season while sharing a few hours in conversation with friends.

Knitting for Hats & Scarves has been a lot of fun this winter. I’m really glad someone in our group saw their flyer in the CNRG e-letter (http://cnrg-portland.org)! Bill has been really helpful, and flexible to work with as well. Thanks!
You guys are so beautiful! This is wonderful. We’re delivering 100 items next week to the Virginia Garcia Health Center in Washington County ( http://www.virginiagarcia.org/about.html ). And we hope to deliver again to IRCO Africa House, Emanuel Children’s Hospital, and possibly also Adelante Mujeres before this season ends.
In March, Living Earth – which sponsors this project – is having a community potluck on March 5, and it would be a great chance to meet folks who are also connected to this project. Info about that will be on at LivingEarthGatherings.org after the beginning of February. It would really be great to meet you!
Definitely let me know about the potluck details and I’ll circulate the information to the knitting group. Thanks!
